Advocate of the Month – April 2021

THE APRIL ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

LOIS STEHLIK!

Lois has been an advocate with our CASA program since October 2017. Over this time, she has served 4 families and 7 total children ranging in ages from newborn to 19 years old. Currently, Lois is serving a family with one infant child.

Lois has a special gift for connecting with not only the children she serves but also the caregivers and families too. If there is a need, Lois will be sure that it is met. Recently, when Lois heard that the family needed a crib, she did not hesitate to find one, pick it up, and deliver it so they could get ready for the child to be returned home. Throughout the case, Lois has assisted in finding resources for formula and diapers as well and is always on standby to assist with whatever needs arise.

Some may expect a case involving an infant to be easier than most, but Lois’s case has not come without conflict or hardship. Through the conflict, though, she has handled uncomfortable situations and conversations with grace and has always stayed firmly committed to what’s best for the child. She is thorough and thoughtful with the recommendations she makes to the court and is great about documenting her regular contacts with all parties in the case.

Aside from her advocacy itself, Lois is a frequent (and hilarious) visitor at the CASA office, often dropping in to meet with her supervisor, attend CASA events and trainings, or just to grab lunch with the staff. She also finds ways to support the CASA program with fundraising events and is currently on the planning committee for our Amplifying Advocacy Conference.

Lois has one of the kindest souls, and her servant heart shines through in all she does. We are grateful for her and thankful that she chooses to serve her community through our CASA program!
