Advocate of the Month – April 2022

THE April ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

Karl Mahaffey!

We are excited to announce that this month we are honoring Karl Mahaffey as our Advocate of the Month! Karl has been an advocate since September and was assigned his first case in October 2021. He has gone above and beyond since day one! He not only keeps in contact with the parties involved but also church members as well as others who may have insight to this family’s life.

This case came to us with a long history of CPS involvement, so Karl has really taken this opportunity to work with the parents. He has visited their home several times and has had conversations with them to try and help them with acknowledging behaviors that continue to bring them to the attention of the department. Doing this in hopes that if the parents and child do reunify, there won’t be another traumatic event in the child’s life such as another removal.

Karl visits with his CASA child at least once a month and keeps in contact with her more frequently. This past month, after finding out that Karl volunteered at an animal shelter, he invited his CASA child to come volunteer for a day. She and the foster mother did in fact go and the child had so much fun loving on all of the animals.

Karl’s commitment to this case goes beyond monthly visits. He has taken great care to ensure that every side of this story is taken in to account. It is more than just helping this family reunite, it is helping this family reunite and taking the steps necessary to avoid any future trauma for this child. We are so grateful for all of the time Karl devotes to his case and the impact he is making on the lives of this child and her family.
