Advocate of the Month – January:

THE january ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

Consistency, tenacity, dedication-these are just a few of the words that come to mind when describing our January Advocate of the Month, Brenda Burns.

Brenda became an advocate in 2022 and is assigned to her fourth case. In August 2023, she closed two cases that she carried simultaneously for a year and a half. Then, in September, a new case came in that involved five children in three separate placements. It was obvious that the case required a strong, experienced advocate who could juggle all the moving pieces. Someone with exceptional organizational skills and a willingness to invest a great amount of time was needed…someone like Brenda Burns.

Since accepting the case, Brenda has driven 1,065 miles visiting children, parents, and caregivers. She has delivered bicycles, books, and Christmas gifts. She has spent time getting to know the children and families so that she has an accurate understanding of their needs. Brenda has also spent numerous hours seeking out family members as potential caregivers and/or as people with whom the children desire to maintain connections.

Documentation is a critical component to effective advocacy, and Brenda does a superb job. Her case records are always up to date, and she effectively communicates with all parties. Brenda knows her case inside and out. Not only does this keep the case moving forward, but it is extremely beneficial when she testifies in court. Her testimony is accurate, valuable, and impactful.

Brenda stands out as an advocate who exemplifies excellence, commitment, and boldness. She is self-motivated, not afraid to ask questions, and goes above the minimum standards in all areas of advocacy. Brenda is a Difference Maker!
