Advocate of the Month- December 2023

THE December ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

Shelby Harding!

The word December often connotates feelings of magic, warmth, and miracles; this month at CASA we’ve certainly experienced all of those feelings and more. This month, our advocate, Shelby Harding, closed a case that was just two months shy of being open for 6 years.  The most magical thing about this is that despite all the changes six years brought for Shelby, her commitment to this child never wavered. It is for that reason that this month we wanted to honor Shelby as our December Advocate of the Month!

Shelby accepted this case, her first case, in February of 2018. At the time Shelby was a student at SHSU and was under the impression that she would be assigned to this case for no more than two years. As you can see, it didn’t quite work out that way. When Shelby graduated and accepted a job in Conroe, there was a small assumption that maybe the case would have to be reassigned. That was never the plan for Shelby! She had already fostered such a beautiful relationship with this young person, whom she had met at just a couple of months old. Shelby made it clear that she was in this for the long haul.

Throughout the duration of her case, Shelby remained consistent with her visits to the placement, maintained contact with all pertinent parties monthly; and when the youngster started school, Shelby played and continues to play, a big role in this child’s educational journey. Shelby has never shied away from advocating zealously in union with the care provider to meet the needs of her CASA child. As a CASA she remained the squeaky wheel until things got done especially in the final months.

We are so grateful for advocates like Shelby. Her dedication goes beyond this organization; Shelby is truly a committed advocate for the children and the families we serve. We look forward to continuing to work alongside Shelby and watch as she continues to impact the lives of those that she encounters.
