Advocate of the Month – December:

THE december ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

Please help us congratulate the December Advocate of the Month, Susan Brown. Susan became an advocate in August of this year. She was assigned her first case in September, and she has been busy, busy ever since.

Susan is serving four children who are currently in two placements. In the short time the case has been open, the children have been moved several times and Susan quickly visited them. She made sure the placements had what they needed, which included things such as bunk beds, clothes, toys, and books. She has also been extremely supportive of the CPS caseworker by tracking down vital information, some of which included obtaining birth certificates.

Susan has observed several virtual visits between the children and their mother so that she can report back to the court how the visits are going. In between Susan’s own visits with the children, she too visits with them virtually. Susan has taken those opportunities to engage the oldest child in activities to promote and support reading and social skills.

Because three of the four children have birthdays in December, Susan recently organized a party so they can all celebrate together. She approached the manager of a popular establishment for kids’ parties and asked for a donation. The manager agreed and provided vouchers for food and games. What great memories these children will have of their birthdays and all thanks to their CASA.

In addition to going above and beyond in advocacy, Susan generously shares her time volunteering in many of our program’s events. She is also conscientious about earning training hours and attends every in-service she can. Moreover, Susan is timely and thorough regarding documentation of case notes.

To quote DeAnn Hollis, “The heart of a volunteer is never measured in size, but by the depth of commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.” This perfectly sums up Susan Brown, CASA volunteer and Advocate of the Month for December.
