Advocate of the Month – August 2020

THE August ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

Laurie Munoz!

Laurie has been a strong advocate since she graduated from Pre-Service Training in February of this year. Most advocates take one case following training – but Laurie jumped right in to two cases! These cases turned out to be a little different from our usual cases, but Laurie has continued month after month to be resilient in figuring out how to best advocate and do her visits.

With a February Graduation, it obviously wasn’t long after she took her cases that the pandemic hit. Even as a new advocate, that didn’t slow Laurie down at all. She has continued to work towards identifying the best interest of the children, visits with the children multiple times a month both in person and by video, and vocalizes any needs that arise. She is in frequent contact with the parents as well as the caseworker and attorneys. She pays close attention to the needs of the children (as well as the family overall) and works to find resources for those needs. No matter what obstacle has been thrown her way – and there have been several – she continues to go above what is required of her!

Overall, Laurie is a great advocate with such a caring heart and we are so grateful to have her as part of the team.
