Advocate of the Month – January 2022

THE january ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

cora sims!

January’s Advocate of the Month is Cora Sims. She was assigned to her first case in November 2021 and has already been an incredible advocate during her short time at CASA.

Cora is very intentional with her time and makes sure the time spent is quality time. You can see how much Cora cares about others in just a few minutes of getting to know her. Taking on a new case during the holiday season can be challenge, but Cora went above and beyond to connect with the kids in this season, while also making sure they had the Christmas that they deserved.

During her first visit with the children, the children wanted to open the gifts Cora brought from CASA. They were so excited and grateful for them, but Cora quickly realized that having already opened these gifts, they might not have much to open on Christmas. She made arrangements to meet up with the mother and give her a few additional gifts that they could have under the tree for Christmas morning.

Later, during a call with the mother she realized the family did not have a Christmas tree. She took it upon herself to find one for them, reaching out to her fellow CASAs for help to gather lights and ornaments for the tree, too. She personally delivered the decorations to the family once collected.

Cora’s “My Why” for becoming an advocate is “Every Child Deserves a Voice” and she has been diligent in making sure the children she serves have a voice and are well taken care of. She always brightens the day of those around her. We are very thankful for her servant heart and that she is part of the CASA family.
