Advocate of the Month- January 2023

THE January ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

Laurie Munoz!

CASA’s Advocate of the Month for January is Laurie Munoz. Laurie has been an advocate for almost 3 years and has been assigned to her current case since November of 2020. When her current CASA child became pregnant last year in August, Laurie was so supportive from the start. She began to help the child educate herself on how to care for herself while pregnant, childbirth, what to expect when baby comes, etc. It was her primary goal to ensure that her child was well informed so that she would feel empowered to start making decisions for herself but also decisions that would affect her baby.

In December Laurie was able to work with other community partners to gather many baby items that every first-time mother would need. She attended the child’s baby shower and was able to deliver a car seat, crib, bassinet, baby clothes, and so much more, further ensuring that her CASA child had everything that she needs to embark on her new journey.

The relationship between Laurie and her CASA child is rooted in trust because Laurie has been the one constant in this child’s life. Laurie does what she says she is going to do, and she is usually always the first person this child calls when she needs to process things. We are so grateful for advocates like Laurie who take the time to invest in their relationships with their CASA children.
