THE FEBRUARY ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:
KIM WALTERS

We often say the CASA advocate in the one stable person in a child’s life during their time in foster care and Kim is the perfect example of this. Kim has demonstrated extraordinary determination, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the children in her case. From being a listening ear, attending baptisms and important events and much more. No distance has ever been too far for her when it comes to showing up for them. She routinely drives hundreds of miles each month just to ensure she can spend time with her children, advocate for them, and be fully present in their lives. Her consistency and reliability have provided them with a sense of stability and reassurance during an incredibly uncertain time.
When one of Kim’s CASA children faced a complex dental issue it initially seemed like an impossible challenge, but Kim refused to accept defeat. She tirelessly helped search for resources, coordinated care, and pushed through every obstacle until the child received the help she so desperately needed. Throughout the process, Kim remained a steady and comforting presence, never losing sight of the emotional toll the situation took on the child. She attended every appointment, sitting beside her, holding her hand, and offering words of encouragement and comfort. Kim reminded her again and again how brave and strong she was, helping to turn moments of fear into moments of courage.
Not only has she showed up emotionally and physically for her children she is steadily working outside of visits to look into relative placement options and making sure these children stay connected to the people who they had important relationships with before coming into care. Through her actions, Kim showed not only her dedication as a CASA volunteer, but also her deep empathy and genuine love for the children she serves. Her commitment has and will make a lasting and meaningful difference in their lives. Through all of the lack of trust and unknown outcomes these children have faced since entering foster care, she has been an anchor, letting them know they are not alone in their journey. When they have questions, they call her for advice and guidance. We are so grateful to have Kim as their advocate, giving insight and wisdom to the children she serves.
