THE MAY ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:
KAREN KERNOHAN

We are proud to celebrate our May Advocate of the Month, Karen Kernohan. Karen was previously a CASA staff member in another area and when she retired, she knew she still wanted to make a difference. Karen has been on her current case for 7 months and while she may work quietly behind the scenes, the love, dedication, and compassion she pours into her advocacy speaks volumes.
Karen has faithfully walked alongside a set of twins who have been in care since the day they were born. Being premature, the twins have faced many medical challenges, including one twin needing a feeding tube early on and countless doctor appointments along the way. Through it all, Karen has remained a steady and caring presence in their lives. She stays closely involved in every milestone, every appointment, and every update, always making sure these precious babies are cared for and supported. Karen has a genuine, caring heart for everyone involved in the case . Even when it has been difficult to locate the parents, Karen has gone out of her way to search for phone numbers and find ways to keep them connected and updated on their babies. She understands how important those connections are and never stops trying.
Karen is also incredibly thoughtful and dependable. She consistently checks in with her supervisor to make sure she has the most current information. She deeply cares for the foster family and has built sweet relationships not only with the twins, but with the other children in the home as well. She makes sure the foster family feels supported, appreciated, and never alone. Karen’s kindness, patience, and commitment remind us of what true advocacy looks like. She serves with such a humble heart, never asking for recognition, yet making an incredible impact on the lives of everyone around her. We are beyond grateful for Karen and so proud to recognize her as our May Advocate of the Month.
