Advocate of the Month – June

THE JUNE ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH IS:

This month, we are proud to recognize Marcie Bartholomew as our Advocate of the Month! Marcie exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated Court Appointed Special Advocate. She is tenacious, diligent, and never backs down from a challenge. No matter the obstacles, she faces them head-on with determination and grace, always keeping the best interests of the children at the center of her work.

Currently serving five children across three different placements, Marcie skillfully navigates a wide range of personalities, circumstances, and caregiver expectations. She is available to answer questions, find needed resources, and be a sounding board for the adults who have stepped up to care for these children. She can always be counted on to faithfully visit her kiddos monthly, and many times she sees them more frequently. Marcie visits them in their homes, at school, and anywhere else that may suit the families and the needs of the children. She connects with them by kicking a soccer ball together, writing with sidewalk chalk, and playing board games. Sorry is a favorite board game among them. Marcie understands the importance of building trust and strives to form strong relationships with her assigned children.

Marcie also does an excellent job of keeping attorneys, caseworkers, and her CASA supervisor informed of developments in the case. She appreciates the importance of consistent and timely communication and the effect it has on the case. Sharing information with all relevant parties contributes to a case progressing smoothly and decisions being made with the most up to date facts and evidence.

A case with five children, three placements, and six caregivers presents opportunities for chaos, confusion, and emotions running high. But it is also an opportunity for children and families to experience the difference that a CASA volunteer makes. Out of all the people who interact with them, Marcie is the one who consistently shows up month after month. Her willingness to tackle difficult situations with courage, professionalism, and compassion will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children she serves. We are incredibly grateful for Marcie’s steadfast dedication and are honored to celebrate her this month.
